The mission of the Fort bend P-16 Regional Council (P-16 Council) is to create a college and career
going culture among stakeholders and participants from pre-school through college graduation, to
promote life-long learning and to sustain a high quality of life in the Fort Bend Region.
Some of the guiding principles of the Council include the following: use data analysis as the basis for
all decisions and action plans, employ a standard of continuous quality improvement, promote and
support a rigorous academic curriculum at all levels, and form community partnerships to
advance the quality of education and success for all.
Stakeholders now include Fort Bend ISD, Lamar CISD, Needville ISD, Stafford MISD, University of Houston- Sugarland, Houston Community College and Wharton Jr. College. These education entities are represented by the Superintendents and the Heads of the colleges plus other education, business, community and faith-based leaders.
The Council, among other accomplishments, has successfully implemented key initiatives: two math summits for professional development for educators and a Math Collaborative that has implemented
pilots in several schools that are achieving success in improving math proficiency for all students in those campuses.
